Fairwater has a small shopping precinct at the centre of the Ward which consists of a Chippy,  supermarket, chemist, charity shop and Chinese Take-away on the lower level and a hardware shop launderette, opticians male and female hairdressers, sandwich bar, a couple of shops are vacant or changing hands.

It is split into three distinct areas Fairwater 1, 2 & 3 and is separated from adjoining wards by inclines or water courses.
The area stretches up Windsor Road from Henllys Way across to Fairwater Way, taking in the playing fields and Blenheim Rd Community Primary School following the left of Dowlais Brook up encompassing Fairwater High School, Greenmeadow Primary School, Spring Grove, Rosemeade through Ty-Canol  to Henllys Church in Wales School down through Tramway, Tolpath, Farlays, following the Incline down over Penylan Playing Fields into  the area around Pace and Jule Road back to Henllys Way.  The Centre area encompassing Neerings, Oaksford, Brunel Rd, Rolls Close and Fairhill including St Peter's Close.   It has a population of over four thousand residents.
